Marble – what you need to know

Marble is called such if the rock consists of at least half calcite, aragonite or dolomite. Calcite, however, is the predominant variant, while aragonite and dolomite are rare. Marble has a small pore space and no fossils.

Marble is often called marble, which is not marble at all. The types of marble mentioned in the spoken word marble such as limestone, onyx, travertine etc. are actually soft stones and most soft stones are mentioned in our language or in everyday language as marble (also on this site).
